FI-L-002

Used by: Government of Canada
Used from: 1957-1994
Designer: Alan Beddoe (artist)

Description

As with the 1921 and 1994 versions, the 1957 arms of Canada is a stylized one colour rendering of the Canadian Coat of Arms. Used together with English and French titles it forms a corporate signature.

This version of the arms was used to identify the Government of Canada and its activities from 1957 to 1994.

In the early 1970’s, at the beginning of the Federal Identity Program, the 1957 arms was replaced with the flag symbol as the identifying symbol of federal ministers and their offices.

In 1984, the 1957 arms once again became the identifying symbol of federal ministers and their offices.
