Canada, a land of unlimited contrast, is the place to be for today’s adventurer.
Linked from Atlantic to Pacific by the 5,000-mile Trans-Canada Highway, the world’s second largest country offers a wide range of vacation interest. The bustling cities of East and West are only minutes away from rugged outdoor country, and many excellent highways branch off the Trans-Canada to take the traveller to cities and towns, lakes and parks, historic sites, and waterways followed by early explorers and fur traders.
Relax on lush, warm islands off the Pacific coast, admire the virgin grandeur of the Rocky Mountains from the luxury of a castle-like hotel, see thundering Niagara Falls from the top of a giant revolving tower, or pitch your tent beside a tranquil stream far from the roar of the city.
The keynote in Canada is variety. You can enjoy the Olde English atmosphere of Victoria-marvel at the big sky and long vistas of the prairies-watch the water traffic of the St. Lawrence Seaway, the world’s longest lake-and-river highway for ocean ships-tour Toronto’s ultra-modern City Hall, with its heart-stopping architecture-photograph a scarlet-coated “Mountie” at the soaring Peace Tower in Ottawa, the capital. You’ll find Montreal, with its skyscrapers and sophisticated entertainment, a striking contrast to Quebec City, where you can take a horse-drawn calèche through narrow streets to the historic Citadel. In the Atlantic Provinces you can loll on golden sand beaches, listen to the wailing skirl of bagpipes and visit communities where history was made.
Canada is a land of many ethnic origins, kept alive with colourful folk festivals and pageants. Born in 1867, it is an “up-and- coming” country with a wealth of activities in all seasons.
To discover the vacation wonderland that lies off the Trans-Canada Highway, follow the tours briefly outlined in this booklet. But remember-these Adventure Tours From the Trans-Canada Highway are only a fraction of the exciting trips you can take in every area of this big land.
